Burnout Prevention & Self-Advocacy Workshop for Nannies - Fall Date TBD

$70.00

It’s no secret that helping professions (caregivers, teachers, nurses, counselors) are at high risk for burnout, and nannies are no exception. The unique nature of the long-term and highly personal relationships between nannies and the families they work for increases their risk because they consistently have to navigate how to apply professional boundaries to a more personal role.

The key to maintaining your wellbeing is learning to identify burnout and how to address any issues before they escalate. This workshop will introduce you to the common risk factors, signs, and symptoms of burnout and provide you with tools to both prevent its onset and intervene if you are already experiencing it. By working both individually and collaboratively with your peers, you will learn how to effectively apply these skills to your everyday life while building a support network of fellow nannies.

We will cover the following concepts in detail:

  • Risk Factors for Developing Burnout

    • Unrealistic expectations, guidelines for evaluation, reluctance to address issues

  • Signs and Symptoms of Burnout

    • Physical (headaches, chronic fatigue), emotional (hopelessness, resent, anxiety), exhaustion (irritability, withdrawal)

  • How to Prevent Burnout

    • Building a social support network, making time for self-care, creating a work-life balance, finding ways to move your body/exercise

  • What to Do if You’re Already Experiencing Burnout

    • Setting limits, creating breaks in your routine, advocating for your needs

  • Communication Strategies to Increase Self-Advocacy with Employers & Have Your Needs Met

    • Direct communication skills, “I” statements, setting/reinforcing appropriate boundaries

  • How to Cope with Stress & Difficult Situations

    • Building resilience, practicing effective self-care, creating a support network to validate concerns
